The Fox Energy Center, located in Wrightstown, Wisconsin, is home to a natural gas fueled electric generating unit that makes electricity for WPS customers. The plant is a combined-cycle generating facility and is capable of producing 620 megawatts.
Background
The combined-cycle power plant features two General Electric combustion turbine generators fueled by natural gas and is cooled by a cooling tower which uses recycled water from a nearby sewage treatment facility.
Construction of the power plant began in November 2002 and went into operation in 2005. Since 2005, WPS purchased 500 megawatts of the electric capacity produced by the Fox Energy Center. WPS purchased the power plant outright from Fox Energy Center LLC, owned by subsidiaries of Tyr Energy, Inc. and General Electric on March 28, 2013 for a total purchase price of $440 million.
