If you can respond to sudden high electric prices, you can lower your bills.
When demand for electricity suddenly rises to extremely high levels, prices per kilowatt-hour (kWh) usually go up. The goal of Response Rewards is to help you avoid
those higher rates, known as on-peak and critical-peak hours.
When it becomes clear that WPS needs to reduce demand on our electric load, you'll be contacted by your choice of pager,
text message, email or fax at least one hour in advance. That gives you time to temporarily shut down or stop using high-use electrical items, such as
your air conditioner, dehumidifier, clothes dryer and dishwasher.
When the critical-peak period is ending, you'll be notified in the same way at least 30 minutes in advance, allowing you to resume electricity use if you
choose. Critical-peak periods typically last between two and eight hours, account for less than 3 percent of all annual hours and are limited to 50 hours
per year. And, to help you further save, off-peak savings hours — times you pay less than the standard rate — are available to you every day of
the week.
