Renewable Pathway allows eligible commercial and industrial customers to subscribe to and purchase energy from a portion of a utility-scale, renewable energy generating facility — based right here in Wisconsin. Customers can take part with a short-term commitment, service agreements designed for 1 or 5 years. This is a pilot program approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in 2023.
Customer benefits
- Rates fixed for the entire term (1 or 5 years) of service agreement.
- Purchase all or a portion of your energy usage from renewable sources.
- Energy and capacity credits fixed and factored into net kWh rate.
- Bundle with other voluntary renewable energy offerings. Total amount of all subscriptions may not exceed 100% of the average annual usage.
- RECs either transferred to participating customer through M-RETs or retired on the customer’s behalf.
Subscription details
Available to all firm business customers in Wisconsin on general primary, general secondary or lighting rate schedules.
- Subscription in 100 kWh/month blocks (minimum per month of 1000 kWh) not to exceed 100% of annual firm energy use.
- Monthly pricing is based on two factors:
- Resource cost — initial investment in operation, maintenance and additional facility needs.
- Credit for capacity and energy value.
- WPS owns and maintains responsibility for the operation and maintenance of each dedicated renewable facility used in the program.
- No changes required to existing meters.
- Early termination fees will apply.
