Customers urged to make arrangements to stay connected

Winter heating moratorium ends April 15

With the winter moratorium ending soon, Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is strongly urging customers who have fallen behind on energy bills to catch up now. Customers carrying significant past-due balances are at risk of disconnection starting April 16.

Customers with past-due balances should contact WPS at 800-450-7260. A minimum payment option and flexible payment plans may be available. WPS also is making phone calls and using bill messages to alert customers who are behind on their payments.

Some customers may qualify for energy assistance through the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP). There is no charge to determine eligibility or to apply for assistance. More information on energy assistance can be found at homeenergyplus.wi.gov or by calling 866-HEAT-WIS (866-432-8947).

Scammers have been known to target customers with threats of immediate disconnection at this time of year. A common scam pressures customers to make immediate payment using a prepaid card (e.g., MoneyPak card or Green Dot card). WPS never solicits payment in this manner. Customers who receive suspicious calls or emails should contact WPS immediately to verify the status of their account.
