Help for their future: Area students among recipients of WPS Foundation technical college scholarships
Green Bay — Learning and developing new skills can help students flourish in their careers. The Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) Foundation is doing its part to help 31 local students by awarding them more than $20,000 in college scholarships.
This year’s recipients include students across northeast and north central Wisconsin continuing their education this fall in the fields of accounting, business management, electric power distribution and natural gas utility distribution. Some of the young men and women receiving a scholarship are:
- Brandon Boh (Minocqua)
- Nina Burkett (Green Bay)
- Cooper Fellows (Manitowoc)
- Brandon Kassner (Kewanee)
- Mariah Payette (Coleman)
- Wyatt Seether (Wausau)
Each student is receiving a $750 scholarship to help them pursue a one-year technical diploma or two-year associate degree. Grants are awarded based on academic achievement, school and community leadership activities, and financial need.
Providing support for students for a half-century
These scholarships are part of the WPS Foundation’s commitment to enhance educational opportunities for students, and have been offered for more than 50 years. Since its founding in 1964, the WPS Foundation has awarded nearly $5.5 million in scholarships to students in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
To be eligible for a technical college scholarship, students must be high school seniors living in the WPS service area, be enrolled in a technical diploma or associate degree program, and attend one of six designated Wisconsin Technical College schools.
