Natural gas customers of WPS
have three types of natural gas service to choose from: Firm, Interruptible or
Transportation.
- Firm system sales service
- WPS provides all natural gas
service. This includes pipeline capacity, natural gas supply, delivery and daily
balancing. Customers receive uninterrupted gas service, except in emergencies.
- Interruptible system sales service
- WPS provides all
natural gas service. This includes pipeline capacity, natural gas supply, delivery
and daily balancing. However, customers agree to have gas supply interrupted when
demand is high. In return, they are charged less than the firm system rate.
WPS offers an optional Nominated Firm Service.
- Transportation service
- Customers choosing Transportation Service take
responsibility for buying natural gas directly from gas suppliers or brokers,
arranging delivery to the WPS distribution system. Either the
customers or their suppliers or brokers complete daily balancing. WPS
uses its distribution system to deliver gas to the customers' meters.
Competitive costs
All firm, interruptible and transportation gas customers are served by the
WPS distribution system (the pipes and other infrastructure
required to deliver gas to customers' meters). WPS is committed to
keeping its distribution rates among the lowest in Wisconsin to offer customers the
best possible value for their energy dollar.
Advance notice needed to switch rates
Customers need to notify WPS in writing by March 1 if they want
to switch their type of gas service on
the upcoming November 1.
Advance notice is needed because WPS starts contracting with
pipelines and suppliers long before the heating season. Allowing some customers to
switch service after contracts have been made could increase costs for other
customers.
